About the Speaker
Hunter Wessells, MD, FACS, is professor and chair in the Department of Urology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a UW adjunct professor of Surgery. He a board-certified physician at the Urology Clinic at Harborview and the Men's Health Clinic at UWMC-Roosevelt.

Dr. Wessells strives to provide state-of-the-art care of complex urogenital disorders. He earned his medical degree at Georgetown University, has published more than 75 journal articles or book chapters, and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and lectures internationally.

He serves as a permanent member of the National Institutes of Health, is a member of the Advisory Committee for Urology of the American College of Surgeons and has served on the WHO International Consultations on Erectile and Sexual Dsyfunction. A medicine developed by Dr. Wessells and collaborators at the University of Arizona is in clinical trials for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Learning objectives for this lecture:

  1. Differentiate heritable and non-heritable component to ED
  2. Explain genome wide association data and strength of associations
  3. Understand plausible biological mechanisms of human ED
  4. Review potential therapeutic targets in CNS and periphery
