Celia Hildebrand, DAOM, LAC, research assistant professor, received the 2023 Rosalind K. Franklin Society Special Award in Science, for her article, "Auricular Acupuncture in Combat Medic Trainings," published in the journal, Medical Acupuncture.
This prestigious recognition is a testament to Dr. Hildebrand's remarkable contributions and dedication to advancing scientific knowledge. It is the third annual distribution of the 100 awards given to women science researchers and authors.
"I was deeply touched that Dr. Richard C. Niemtzow and Jennifer A. M. Stone nominated me for this award," said Dr. Hildebrand. "As a Colonel in the US Air Force (RET), Dr. Niemtzow developed the 'Battlefield Acupuncture' taught throughout the U.S. military medical training programs and used by U.S. Special Forces. We use it throughout the U.S. Veterans Administration as a critical piece of the comprehensive pain management. This is one of three protocols I teach in Ukraine as it is invaluable for interrupting pain signals between brain and body, so soldiers can be removed from the battlefield without use of morphine."
This award is given to the best paper of the year by a woman or underrepresented minority in each of the Mary Ann Liebert Inc. journals in health, medicine, and biotechnology. Winners are announced in July to coincide with Rosalind Franklin's birthday.
