Information about Dr. Cox was provided by one of his former practice partners. After residency, John Cox first practiced for a few years in Kirkland, WA. He was then one of four doctors to form Bellevue Family Medicine Associates, in Bellevue WA, in 1979. Along with Peter Schock, Steve Dault, and Jim Hague, they started a thriving, growing practice that lives on today. In 1985 John had a kidney transplant, thanks to a generous donation from his sister. He took a short time off, and then returned to practice for another 15 years. In 1994 and 1995 two of his partners moved away, and three new ones joined the practice. He was often referred to by his partners as "the professor," partly for his "mad professor" appearance, and partly for his extremely learned approach to patient care. He was revered by both patients and staff. He began slowing down his practice in 1998 and finally retired in 2001. He had no children, and his wife preceded him in death by a few years. He died of renal failure in 2007, and has no local living family, except for the many patients he cared for over the years who still miss him.
