When I finished residency, Iwent to work for IHS as a locums in Ketchikan, Alaska. I had agreat time and was drawn to the beauty of Alaska. I also met my husband and committed to IHS in Metlakatla (near Ketchikan) for 2 years. Subsequently after the birth of our first child we moved to Juneau where I practiced full spectrum family medicineat an IHS clinic for 6 years. After the birth of our second child, the family priorities changed, and Ijoined my husband's private group practice which allowed me to have a more flexibility in my schedule. We are a group of 7 internists and family physicians plus 2 midlevels, practicing both outpatient and inpatient medicine. We all work 4 days a week, with call 1 in 7.Our Senior partners emphasize the importance of family and lifestyle, and the rest will follow. Sofar, it'sbeen a great career!
My favorite recreational activities are ice hockey, skiing both downhill andskate skiing, boating and fishing.
My favorite memory from residency was our yearly retreats to Mt Lemmon or to Mexico
My husband isa brilliant internist. We have 2 children, a girl and a boy. We also have been hosting international exchange high school students for the past few years. We currently have a host daughter, 17 years old, from Indonesia who is spending hersenioryear with us.
